Matt Pryor - Still alive, making music

Matt Pryor, of Get Up Kids and New Amsterdams (pseudo) fame released a solo album this week entitled, Confidence Man. Whether Pryor is referencing Herman Melville’s novel on the human masquerade or is simply just a huge fan of the hit TV series, Lost, I can’t be sure. What I do know is, when I was about a decade younger and just discovering delicious delicious alcohol and started having tingly feelings (of the pants variety) I loved the Get Up Kids like any teen should. Then when he was touring as New Amsterdams, I made a trip down to Seattle (it’s this place in America — looks just like Vancouver, but with overweight people) for a quiet sit down show in some back alley pub to see him play.

I don’t write music reviews, so I’m not going to tell you how much he’s matured his sound, refined his voice, improved his composition, or the likely fact that since he has had children he probably doesn’t sleep with tour-floozies surrounded by copious amounts of illegal street drugs and alcohol anymore — because all of that sounds really boring. So without further adieu, a song he wrote to speak out against Obama’s entire campaign and slogan*:

I Wouldn’t Change A Thing, by Matt Pryor

Who doesn’t like politics?
Edward H.

P.S. Matt Pryor is playing at The Media Club in Vancouver on August 11th at 8pm, with a $15 cover.

*Since I don’t actually know this guy, or anything about music or politics, I can’t be certain this is actually what he means, but I think we all know what I’m talking about.
When you go to YouTube.com make sure to watch all of their videos. So creative and crazy! All the filming is very well done. Also, the filming angles and final product are so different. Definitely fun to watch.. Good job guys!

Fully WAM'd

Well, this year's WAM (Winnipeg AM Contest - Aug 14-17) came and went in a pleasant blur. My frostbitten gullet has finally healed from constantly sipping on the weekend's heavily favoured beverage: The Iceberg.

But, as many on the trip can attest, a Winnipeg hangover takes longer to subside than most (which accounts for my tardy Bneeth post). As you might already know, WAM 2008's top 3 consisted of, as Magnus Hanson says, "the Sur-Del bulk pack."
1. Ryan Decenzo
2. Scott Decenzo
3. Magnus Hanson

------------

A more elaborate WAM column, along with more articles / photos / video, can be found on <a href="http://www.push.ca/skateboarding/"target="_blank">Push.ca, which by the way has launched in "beta form"—meaning it's still being fine-tuned and tinkered with while it's live. In the near future, the site will also feature a photo gallery and video highlights from the WAM contest. Be sure to download Silverlight (you can get it on Push.ca) to be able to watch the vids.

------------

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank The Forks, The Inn at the Forks, Genico Aiello and Sk8 Skates, as well as the Winnipeg skate community for the hospitality and good times at WAM '08.

(After a few late 'Peg nights, Scoot still managed to switch front blunt a little too easily.)

It was some of the best techincal skateboarding I've seen in a damn long time. Congrats to Joey Brezinski for winning the contest! Read up for more details.

There’s a tiny skateboard on the back of my apartment door.
Was it put there for me, for my enjoyment? Is this some cosmic connection? A sign from God Himself? The long awaited affirmation that a franchise like the Power Of Attraction truly works?
